In summer, the water’s calm early in the morning, which is hands down the best time to avoid crowds and spot some wildlife (think herons and sometimes even seals near the shore). If you’re near Île d’Orléans, paddling around the island’s peaceful nooks feels like a sweet escape from the city’s buzz. I always suggest packing a waterproof jacket, just in case the weather shifts quickly , gets chilly out there on the river.
